Demerara Sugar – A delicious alternative to table sugar. Unlike typical granulated sugar, Demerara sugar crystals are much larger, are golden brown in color and are made from the first pressing of the sugar cane. Unlike granulated sugar, it holds moisture and can benefit the end result in baked goods because it has additional moisture. It is considered by some to be “healthier” since it receives less processing than does white sugar and is lower in calories. It is recommended to be stored in an airtight container.
